NEIL TANNER

Neil Tanner was born in Walkerton, Ontario and at age 16 landed his first job with a Walkerton hotel. He went on to work for the Holiday Inn and later the Fairmont Banff Springs in the Canadian Rockies where he moved to pursue his passion for skiing. In 1981, Neil founded The Shirt Company, a retail store in Lake Louise. Over the next two decades Neil opened more than 30 retail stores across Western Canada including clothing outlets, and ski and snowboard rental shops. Neil co-founded Banff Caribou Properties in 1985 and under this flag the developed and operated several of the Bow Valley's finest restaurants, stores, and hotels such as Banff Caribou Lodge and Banff Ptarmigan Inn, as well as various commercial properties. In 2000, Neil established Tanner Properties, his commercial development operation in Canmore that features three multi- tenant developments in downtown Canmore: Main & 7th, Railway & 10th, and most recently, The Shops of Canmore. An accomplished skier and an active member of the ski community, Neil has his Level IV Canadian Ski Instructors Alliance (CSIA) designation. He is a past chairman of the CSIA and a past board member with the Canadian Ski Coaches Federation (CSCF). Neil also served as the past VP of the international board of lnterski, the international congress of ski instructors. Engaged in his home community, Neil served on the Town of Banff's Development Appeal Board (DAB) for eleven years and was chairman for ten. Neil also had the pleasure of serving six years on the Board of Directors for the Whyte Museum of the Canadian Rockies. Other notable expertise includes service on the advisory board for The Link-Line Group of Companies, the largest Canadian owned natural gas distribution contractor in Ontario; three years on the Queen Margaret's School Board of Governors continuing the legacy of the school established in 1921; as well as membership in the Young President's Organization (YPO Gold), an association of more than 8,000 global business leaders which he joined in 1996. Neil is one of the founding partners of Edgar Properties, a Western Canadian commercial real estate development company which began operating in 2007. Currently, Neil serves on the advisory board of a privately held company that owns three hotels, in Calgary and in Saskatoon. Neil is married to Rose and has one daughter, Sierra. Neil's passion for the outdoors continues; he likes to hike, cycle, golf, travel and, of course, skiing.
